Janey Godley: "The Godmother of Scottish comedy", "Scotland's funniest woman" and winner of 2008 Fringe Report award as 'Best Performer' on the Edinburgh Fringe.

"JANEY GODLEY - TELL IT LIKE IT IS!"

janey07_029originalclean.jpg "The Godmother of Scottish comedy", "Scotland's funniest woman" and winner of 2008 Fringe Report award as 'Best Performer' on the Edinburgh Fringe, Janey Godley brings her 5-star sell-out Edinburgh Fringe show to London for the first time and straight from her success at the Glasgow Comedy Festival where the Herald gave it a 4-star review as "Hilarious... Priceless". They called Janey "a natural-born storyteller... Godley is capable like few others of taming a raucous Glasgow crowd... with a life less ordinary to draw inspiration from and an inquisitive empathy for life's quirkier characters."

About Janey Godley:

JANEY GODLEY is an award-winning comedienne and actress, playwright, Scotsman columnist and bestselling author.

In 2006, she was a Scotswoman of the Year finalist and narrow runner-up as Scotswoman of the Year.

At the 2008 Fringe Report Awards, she was named Best Performer on the London theatre fringe and, in Edinburgh, she won the WAG of the Year title as best after-dinner speaker.

Her autobiography "Handstands in the Dark" was a UK Top Ten bestseller in hardback (2005) and paperback (2006) - "Utterly compelling... a word-of-mouth phenomenon... un-putdownable... her writing is sensationally good" (Daily Telegraph)

She has been called "Scotland's funniest woman... the Godmother of Scottish comedy" (The Scotsman)... "The most outspoken female stand-up in Britain" (Daily Telegraph) performing "some of the sharpest-elbowed comedy in the world" (New York Times) and "the best stuff is unlike anything I've heard from a stand-up comic before" (New Zealand Theatre Review)

She appears regularly on stage in London, at the Edinburgh Fringe and on Radio 4's "Just a Minute".

Her blog, written since 2004 and posted on 126 sites worldwide, has regularly had over 500,000 hits per week. Her full-page column is published in The Scotsman every Monday. The blogs, columns, audio & video clips and more details about Janey are available on her
extensive website www.janeygodley.co.uk

Ed note: Saw Janey Godley perform at ScotsCare St Andrew's Day Scottish Comedy Night bash and she was "braw" - and that was just as MC! A real Glaswegian who tells it like it is!  A great ambassador for Comedy in Scotland and internationally. It's not surprising she has so many great accollades - she's "Pure dead brilliant!" "Creme de la Creme" as Miss Jean Brodie would say - knew I'd manage to get a Godley and Cream reference in there!
