Since their first performance in February 2006 Scotland’s newest cultural organisation the National Theatre of Scotland has been involved in creating over 59 productions in 89 different locations.  With no building of its own, NTS has performed in great theatres, ferries and forests, airports and tower blocks, village halls and drill halls creating theatre on a national and international scale which is contemporary, confident and forward–looking.

A building-less, holistic and thoroughly 21st-century model.  Barely a week seemed to go by without some NTS-led activity” The Herald

National Theatre of Scotland engages with audiences from a diverse range of backgrounds, committed to bringing excellent and world-class theatre to all, be it in city, town, village or often-neglected rural community.  This commitment is fulfilled through extensive touring which embeds NTS activity into communities across Scotland and the UK.

Hardly a week seems to go by without a new production from NTS hitting the road and its building momentum has been increasingly impressive.    The Herald

NTS took the 2006 Edinburgh Festival by storm winning numerous awards for ‘Realism’ and ‘Blackwatch swiftly establishing their reputation as a major theatrical force building a new generation of theatre–goers as well as reinvigorating the existing ones.  This reputation was further enhanced when in Feb 2007 Blackwatch won the prestigious South Bank Show Theatre Award.

"The innovative new National Theatre that is bang on the money. Since starting they’ve hit on the simple and brilliant idea of not being burdened by a building. They take fresh, bespoke theatre to the people, whether it’s abseiling down high-rise blocks or taking urgent new writing to a converted drill hall, as they did in August with Black Watch in all its five-star glory."  The Times

There has been an unprecedented international demand for the work of National Theatre of Scotland.  They have received many prestigious invitations to appear on the international stage and this Autumn they performed in New York and Los Angeles to be followed by a tour in Australia and New Zealand in January 2008.

"What they have delivered has been amazing; it has had significant impact and will continue to do so." Patricia Ferguson, MSP Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport October 05 – May 07

The National Theatre of Scotland believes that stimulating environments cultivate creativity and innovation.  Openness and collaboration are integral to the way NTS work.  By bringing together brilliant artists, designers, composers, choreographers and playwrights they seek to exceed expectations of what and where theatre can be.

"There have been moments of true wonder……to my mind, and as a Scot this new National Theatre is increasingly something of which to be proud."  Ruaridh Nicoll - The Observer
