Accommodation
|
|
There are numerous types of student accommodation available, from student halls of residence to self-catering flats.
It is important to apply early to be sure of getting your first choice of accommodation.
Where can I find accommodation?
When you are looking for
accommodation, you should first contact the Accommodation or Welfare
office, or the Students’ Union at your Higher Education institution.
They may have lists of local accommodation available for rent.
They may also have inspected the accommodation to check it is suitable and they can help if you have any problems.
Most rental properties are advertised in newspapers and on the Internet so this is a good place to look.
University Halls of Residence
Universities and some colleges of further education offer accommodation known as Halls of Residence.
In most cases accommodation provided by the institution has to be arranged before you come to Scotland.
When you are offered a place on your course, you will usually be asked if you would like your institution either to provide accommodation or give advice on privately rented accommodation in the area. Universities and colleges generally give priority to new students or students from overseas in their accommodation. Take a look at the website of the university or college you are interested in to see what accommodation they offer.
How much does it cost?
Student accommodation will typically cost in the region of £50-80 per week in any of the main cities. You should contact your individual university or college to find out the exact cost.
