The Royal High School Club in London Eddie Tait Honorary Scottish Schools and Scots In London Representative C/o Scots In London Ltd, 37 King Street, Covent Garden London London WC2E 8JS England 00447748148080 WEBSITE SERVICES: Alumni Club SCOTTISH?: Yes The Royal High School of Edinburgh's London Club President Simon Card OBE (RHS 1967) and the committee invite former pupils of the school as well as present and former teachers to join the club. The Royal High School Club in London was formed in 1888. After meeting for several years it fell into abeyance and was revived only to fall again during the First World War. The club started to function once more in 1920 since when it has kept going. Your help in keeping the Club "alive and kicking" would be appreciated.
In 2002, the London Club had 57 paid members - a club record ! As
at Nov. 2003, the RHSCL had a mailing of 144 RHS FP's who left the
School between 1925 and 1998 (mixed ages and many new/young joiners):
32 from 1990's; 9 from 1980's; 19 from 1970's; 36 from 1960's; 22 from
1950's; 18 from 1940's; 4 from 1930's and 4 from 1920's.
The Club makes charitable donations to the School and Scottish
Charities and also funds three School Prizes (donating £150), which are
awarded annually at the Prize-Giving Ceremony. Annual subscriptions
(currently £15) go towards the above and also contribute towards the
invitation of guests to our Annual Dinner. The Club provides a point of
contact for RHS FP's living in London and beyond, across diverse ages
and backgrounds, and facilitates further contacts with other Scots. The
strong history and traditions of the school, alongside the friendships
and the values, help to create the common bond shared by RHS FP's in
London. Further details available from the RHSCL Club Secretary . Dr John Murray has written a history of the school, read an extract on the School's site, click to our shop to buy the book.
What we do
Our club president, Simon Card O.B.E., has written a message for club members.
The
Royal High School Club in London (RHSCL) meets formally twice a year,
in November, for the Annual Buffet, and in March, for the Annual
Dinner. 2005 witnessed the Inaugural RHSCL Race Day. We hope to add one
other less formal club fixture to the RHSCL social calendar.
The Club's abridged
e-mail newsletter is available free to members and
non-members. It is easy to unsubscribe should you
decide you no longer wish to receive it. Contact the RHSCL Club Secretary to get yourself on the list.
And finally...
...we would like to hear from you if you have any suggestions / comments on the newsletter, events, new ideas etc. Please let us know if you're doing anything or involved in something, which may be of interest to others and we'll include it in the next newsletter. It's your Club so please do not hesitate to keep in touch and take part. How about a special version of the school song in midi or MP3 format? Anyone fancy having a go?
