The World Ceilidh Festival is a world of top quality music in a natural greenfield amphitheatre in
the Galloway hills. A family welcoming festival, the event features
outdoor and covered stages, a dance marquee, a Celtic Longhouse, a
children's area, fire shows, open mic, music, dance, craft and heritage
workshops, camping, real ale, food, shopping and an un-rivalled
grassroots ambience. The musical programme’s emphasis is on Celtic,
world roots and fusion music. This leads to an eclectic, genre defying
line-up encompassing styles from psychedelic and rock to hip hop and
jazz.
Now in its tenth year the festival is an established event
in the region. It has grown since its beginnings in 1998 while still
remaining an intimate and hospitable experience, welcoming people from
all over Scotland, the UK and beyond for a relaxed, inspiring and
riotous four days! There is an emphasis on as much environmentally
sound practice as possible, with a rigorous recycling policy, use of
biodegradable products and alternative sources of power wherever
possible, and ‘green’ and heritage workshops available to participate
in during the day.
The World Ceilidh is part of Knockengorroch
Community Interest Company, which aims to raise awareness of the
heritage of the area, bringing 'music to the hills and people to the
land’ and re-populating a once densely populated glen.
