LONDON: Dancing: London Reels - Scottish Reeling Print
Tuesday, 13 May 2008, 19:00 - 22:30 by  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Come along to our next evening at St Columba's Church Pont Street!

Please do not wear high-heeled shoes as this damages the dance-floor.

If you have just started reeling, please try and attend the teaching session at the start. After the teaching, find a partner who has danced before- don't be afraid to ask someone to dance!

  • London Reels meets at St Columba's, Pont Street once a month from September to May.
  • We teach reels at the beginning of the evening. After the hour of teaching, the dances are not taught.
Reeling is a type of Scottish Dancing. It is more structured than Ceiledh, but not as formal as Royal Country.

An evening at London Reels:
  1. Teaching begins at 7pm
  2. Social dancing begins at 8pm
  3. The evening ends at 10.30pm.
  4. The cost of the evening is £6.
London Reels Committee
  • Each member of the Committee is a volunteer and is not paid for his or her time. We teach the reels and organise the evening. We hope that you will enjoy the reeling as much as we do!
Charity
  • London Reels makes annual donations to charities. The charities are chosen by the Committee every year. The Committee chooses charities that have a connection with those whom attend London Reels, that are local and/ or have link with Scotland. Recent charities:
  • 2006- The Besom (Hoot Drum Project)
  • 2005- Charlie Waller Memorial Trust
  • 2004- St Nicholas Fund (Chelsea and Westminster Hospital).

How to find us
We meet in St Columba's Church, Knightsbridge, London. The nearest tube is Knightsbridge.
FAQs
  • What is London Reels? London Reels is a club started with the aim of offering reeling lessons, and social reeling evenings to Londoners. The club was originally called Wandsworth Reels, and was founded in 1971.
  • Do I need to bring a partner? -No! Everyone finds their dancing partners on the night from fellow guests.
  • Do I need to ask you if I want to bring a friend? -No! Just turn up. The more the merrier! However, if you are bringing a big party we recommend you arrive early.
  • I've never reeled before. Can I come? -Yes. We teach at the beginning of the evening and you are most welcome. Do remember that the second part of the evening is untaught- we suggest you partner yourself with someone who knows what they're doing!
  • I'm about to go to a ball or wedding. Which reels do you do? We dance the most popular reels such as the Eightsome, Foursome and Mairi's Wedding.
  • Do I need to book? -No! Just come along.
  • What’s the dress code? We don’t have a dress code; many people come straight from work. Wearing a kilt does lead to a discount on the entry price, though. However, it can get quite warm, so many people change into something a bit cooler than work clothes.
  • Do I need special shoes?- No. However, so as not to damage the hall floor, please don’t wear spike or sharp heels, or shoes with marking soles.
